Beneficiaries at a vocational stall

I am very happy and thankful for the multiple opportunities I received through Project Gyansaathi to participate in stalls at Citi Bank, Tata Motors, and Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. At these stalls, I got the opportunity to apply mehndi for customers and sell products prepared by other beneficiaries. These opportunities helped me improve my communication, customer interaction, and mehndi application skills. I also gained confidence through interacting with different people and promoting our products. One of the most memorable moments for me was meeting Shilpa Shetty and Tina Ambani at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital. I felt very happy and proud to have such an experience.

Zainab Zafar, from Govandi, moved from her village two and a half years ago and initially struggled to adjust, remaining shy and hesitant to interact beyond her family and community. Her journey began at Karunya Trust, where a small opportunity to paint diyas for a Diwali stall opened the door to discovering her creativity.

She went on to learn fabric painting, cloth-bag making, diya and candle making, and mehndi, gradually developing both skills and confidence. Stalls at Citi Bank and Tata Motors gave her the opportunity to interact with customers, showcase and sell her creations, and apply mehndi independently. These experiences helped her overcome her shyness, strengthen her communication skills, and discover confidence in her own abilities. A postgraduate in M.Sc., Zainab is now pursuing Graphic Design, runs a YouTube channel, and accepts customised orders using her creative skills. Her journey shows how opportunity, guidance, and encouragement can transform creativity into confidence, skills into livelihood, and self-doubt into self-belief.

Tarranumnisa Shaikh, 27, completed her 10th standard but could not continue her education due to family and financial constraints. Determined to become financially independent, she turned her creativity into a home-based business, creating resin art, jewellery, bangles, charms, hair bows, and customised accessories. She takes orders across Mumbai through WhatsApp and participates in stalls and exhibitions to showcase and sell her products. Through Karunya Trust, she showcased her work at Govandi Mehla Mart and Fairmont Hotel, earning approximately ₹7,000 and ₹2,500, respectively. Recently, she also conducted a two-day Resin Art session for youth at our centre, sharing her skills and inspiring others to explore creative livelihoods.
