Karunya Trust was founded in 1998 with a simple yet powerful belief—that real change begins within communities. What started as small, grassroots efforts soon grew into meaningful interventions.

Initiatives like Gyandeep (education support), Poshan (nutrition and ration support), and Jeevan Sahara (healthcare access) began taking shape. While these were not formal "projects" at the time, they laid the foundation for Karunya Trust’s core areas of work—education, health, livelihoods, governance, environment, and overall community well-being.

Our Core Areas

Six integrated pillars driving holistic community development across Maharashtra

Integrated Education — Karunya Trust core area

Integrated Education

Education creates opportunities that extend beyond the classroom. Karunya Trust supports children, adolescents, youth, and adults through non-formal education centres, remedial classes, school redevelopment, smart classrooms, scholarships, academic support, exposure visits, extracurricular activities, and opportunities that encourage them to continue learning and build confidence for the future.

Holistic Health — Karunya Trust core area

Holistic Health

Good health is essential for individuals and families to thrive. Through healthcare support, nutrition, psychosocial care, awareness programmes, counselling, sports, medical assistance, constructing sanitation units, and drinking water facilities, Karunya Trust works to improve physical, mental, and emotional well-being across different stages of life.

Sustainable Livelihood — Karunya Trust core area

Sustainable Livelihood

Economic stability enables families to make informed choices about their future. Karunya Trust promotes livelihood opportunities through vocational training, skill development, career guidance, and support for income-generating activities, helping individuals become more self-reliant.

Good Governance — Karunya Trust core area

Good Governance

Strong communities are built when people understand their rights and actively participate in local decision-making. Karunya Trust strengthens grassroots institutions through Self-Help groups, children's parliaments, Child rights committees, community mobilisation, access to government schemes, and advocacy for social entitlements and rights.

Sustainable Environment — Karunya Trust core area

Sustainable Environment

Communities and the environment are closely connected. Karunya Trust promotes environmental stewardship through tree plantation, sustainable agriculture, and awareness initiatives that encourage responsible use and conservation of natural resources.

Safe Habitat — Karunya Trust core area

Safe Habitat

Safe and secure housing is the foundation of a life with dignity and opportunity. Karunya Trust enables tribal and underprivileged families to access safe and secure housing solutions, ensuring dignified living conditions.

Aligned with UN Sustainable Development Goals

Karunya Trust aligns its work with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals to contribute to inclusive and sustainable development.

Voices of Impact

Hear from the volunteers and supporters who have witnessed our work firsthand

Yogendra Shukla
Reflecting on my 12+ years with Karunya Trust, Project Gyansaathi, I feel truly blessed. I joined as a volunteer, never imagining this journey would continue for so long. What inspired me most is the harmony between teachers, volunteers, and the organisation. The dedication and pure intent of the teachers and staff is remarkable. I especially appreciate the spirit of unity — most teachers come from different faiths, and over 90% of the children are from the Islamic faith. It's a beautiful example of how education and compassion transcend differences. While Gyansaathi focuses on education, the team's work toward the overall development of children is truly commendable. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to be part of such an amazing team.

Gyansaathi, a part of Karunya Trust, is working with underprivileged children, especially those from slum communities, to support their education. But their work goes far beyond just academics. They focus on the overall development of the children, including their health and well-being, by providing nutritious meals and a supportive environment. I have also seen them work with children affected by substance abuse in their families, which truly sets them apart. Wishing them continued success and growth in the years ahead.

Gyansaathi is a wonderful platform for the underprivileged. As per the students, "We Used To Cry Because We Didn't Want To Come To Gyansaathi, Now We Cry Because We Don't Want To Leave." Teaching science for 10th grade for the last 10 years since 2016 has been a joy for me. Seeing students transformed in their hygiene, ethics, awareness and confidence is a miracle happening at Gyansaathi. Thank you, dear Gyansaathi Staff! God Bless All.
